Null allele at the molecular level; short root, defective radial patterning in the root resulting in a single layer of ground tissue being a hybrid of cortex and endodermis; agravitropic shoot, defective radial patterning in both hypocotyl and shoot inflorescence, resulting in a loss of a normal starch sheath layer and consequently unable to sense gravity in the shoot; gene product is a putative transcription factor of the GRAS family; 100 % kanamycin resistant; mutation is not a T-DNA insertion; not well backcrossed to wt; allelic to sgr1-2 (shoot gravitropism).
